Hawthorne is a hub of Los Angeles County’s South Bay region. Hawthorne has a great variety of restaurants. On Hawthorne Boulevard, Chip’s Restaurant offers an authentic 1950s diner experience with scrumptious breakfasts, exceptional service, and excellent coffee. Café Cuba & Cakes is another good choice for coffee lovers, serving up Havana-style café Cubano plus delicious Cuban sandwiches and potato balls. More eateries can be found along Rosecrans Avenue. Highlights here include Matisse, which serves refined European-influenced dishes in a sophisticated Old World setting with stone walls, wooden beams, and chandeliers. Fabulous Burgers has been a Hawthorne favorite for decades. This fast-casual restaurant is open 24 hours a day and never disappoints. Piggie’s Restaurant is another long-time favorite with straightforward homestyle cooking. In the northeastern Cypave neighborhood you’ll find Eureka! Tasting Kitchen, a rocking restaurant with an emphasis on keeping things local. Expect artisanal eats prepared with locally-sourced ingredients alongside locally-brewed craft beers and live music from talented local acts.

Every original member of the Beach Boys grew up in Hawthorne, and their legacy is celebrated with the Beach Boys Historic Landmark. Hawthorne is close to the coast and residents can easily access the vast sandy stretch of Dockweiler Beach, popular swimming and volleyball hangout Manhattan Beach, and popular surf spot El Porto Beach. For a fun and unusual workout, head to the Tempest Freerunning Academy. Tempest teaches the basics of parkour and has a challenging course of soft obstacles to leap off and through.
