Culver City on the Westside of Los Angeles County combines contemporary cool with a rich heritage of moviemaking culture. The current Sony Pictures Studios occupies the MGM lot, a film industry landmark since 1924. Culver City is often called the Heart of Screenland and countless iconic movies have been filmed in the city, from Gone with the Wind to Grease. Jackson Market and Deli is another long-time Culver City landmark. Established in 1925, Jackson sells fresh produce, fine French bread, and tasty salads, wraps, and sandwiches made with mouthwatering Boar’s Head deli meats and cheeses. Platform provides an award-winning and forward-thinking shopping experience. Here, chic boutiques sell unique fashion and home décor items in a space decorated with a 30-foot art mural and soundtracked by playlists from top musical acts.
Sony Pictures Studios is Culver City’s premier tourist attraction. Studio tours allow visitors to see props and sets from famous movies and television shows. A more unusual attraction is the Museum of Jurassic Technology, a whimsical collection of curiosities and exhibits with much to explore and discover. There are more than 40 art galleries in Culver City spanning all manner of styles and aesthetics. The city also offers an abundance of parks and outdoor recreation space including the Culver Boulevard Median and Ballona Creek bicycle paths.
