Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

El Segundo has several large shopping and lifestyle centers. Plaza El Segundo is branded as the South Bay’s neighborhood center and this attractive open-air complex offers a great selection of restaurants and retailers. Pick up organic groceries at the Plaza’s Whole Foods Market, shop at well-known fashion brands such as Anthropologie and Banana Republic, or head to Sur La Table for high-end cookware and cooking classes. Right next to the Plaza is The Point, an upscale shopping and dining destination. Here, you’ll find fashion brands such as Kendra Scott and Lululemon, spas and beauty salons including Bluemercury and Face Haus, and trendy eateries like health-conscious True Food Kitchen and Japanese seafood izakaya Umi by Hamamasku. A few blocks back from the beachfront, Downtown El Segundo features unique boutiques, specialty stores, and dozens of restaurants serving cuisine from across the globe. Popular dining choices include Jame Enoteca, a bright eatery where Michelin-trained chef Jackson Kalb combines classic Italian cooking with contemporary Californian creative flair. At the northeastern edge of the Downtown district, Pizza Il Romanista serves delicious Rome-style rectangular pizza. Recent years have seen the former industrial area of Smoky Hollow become an up-and-coming district of trendy restaurants, co-working spaces, and creatives. Highlights in this hip neighborhood include Smoky Hollow Coffee for artisanal fresh-roasted coffee blends and Smoky Hollow Tasting & Taproom for exceptional craft beers and grain-to-glass spirits.

Things to Do

El Segundo’s parks department was the inspiration for the hit NBC comedy series Parks and Recreation, and the community offers an abundance of well-maintained outdoor recreation space. El Segundo Beach tends to be less crowded than those in neighboring Manhattan Beach and Playa Del Rey. Spend a relaxing day soaking up the sun on the beach or get active on the beach volleyball courts. Campus El Segundo Athletic Fields features two premier multi-purpose synthetic turf fields near the Toyota Sports Performance Center practice facility of the LA Lakers and LA Kings. The Toyota Sports Performance Center’s facilities are open to the public and the Center offers a range of ice hockey teams, classes, camps, and clinics for both children and adults. El Segundo has several swimming pools, including the indoor Urho Saari Swim Center and the outdoor El Segundo Aquatics Center. The Bay Club’s premier facilities include Pilates and yoga studios, a basketball gymnasium, and both an indoor and rooftop pool. The city’s cultural attractions include the El Segundo Museum of Art, an “art laboratory” that curates unique experiences meant to spark visitors’ own creativity. During the summer, El Segundo Art Walk takes place on the third Thursday of each month. Many businesses in Downtown El Segundo and Smoky Hollow participate by showcasing the work of local artists. The event also features food trucks and live music. Old Town Music Hall is a classic 1920s movie theater that still shows silent films with accompanying pipe organ music. The Music Hall also stages jazz and ragtime concerts. Close to Plaza El Segundo and The Point, ArcLight Cinemas shows the latest releases in state-of-the-art theaters. The downtown Automobile Driving Museum has a large collection of classic cars along with an old-school ice cream parlor.
